I thought I'd write this review in response to the one star review complaining about intermittent connectivity, among other things. We recently purchased a new home which contained numerous old receptacles dating back to the '60s which were cracked in many cases, and in others poorly held plugs. Because we wanted a home which would be safer for children (in addition to addressing the safety issues of the older receptacles) we decided to go with tamper resistant receptacles. I purchased them in bulk packs from Home Depot.

It *is* harder to insert plugs into these receptacles than standard receptacles, and initially, there is some frustrating resistance. After some use the more immediate problems go away and they become easy enough to use. They do a great job of holding on to whatever they've got plugged in (at least for the half year or so we've been using them). I have *never* had a problem with an intermittent transfer of electricity, and that includes being a little gung-ho with the vacuum as I move about the house occasionally tugging on the cord. We're quite happy with this product and I've never had a defective piece.

Sidenote: Amazon's price on this is extremely high. For about twice that you can buy a whole mess of them at your local department store.

Update (June 22, 2012): A year and a half later every single one of these receptacles works just as well as they did when I put them in. The plastic is holding up (no visible damage from adding or removing plugs) and the initial resistance/angle issues that they sometimes present the first handful of times you plug something in has smoothed out quite a bit. Everything I plug in to any of them holds snugly and reliably (and that's not without a fair amount of abuse due to activities like me tripping over vacuum cords).
